While serving time in the execution block, Peter founded an anti-crime advocacy group 'Crime Si Poa' (Crime Is Not Cool) to help turn youth away from crime. He spoke eloquently of his work and experiences at the TEDx Kamiti Prison event, (link below). Many of Peter’s early days in prison were spent locked up for 23 hours a day in a cramped death row cell. Yet he had the determination to complete his Diploma in Law from the University of London, becoming the first inmate in Kenya to do so, later going on to study for his LLB Law Degree. His desire to assist those in need was seen daily in his leadership of the Paralegal Clinic at Kamiti Prison, where he supported many prisoners in navigating the complex legal system and often turbulent path to justice.

Always with a heart for community service, Peter mobilized all inmates in Kenya prisons to forgo their meals and donate food to starving Kenyans when famine hit large parts of the country in 2005. He started the first social enterprise resource center behind bars, and lobbied the prison administration to open bank accounts for the inmates, to enable prisoners to save the money they earned. This would assist them to support their families while they were in prison, and build a nest egg that would surely reduce recidivism upon their release. Peter’s leadership and commitment to make his time in prison a positive encounter broke through the prison walls, leading to President Uhuru Kenyatta signing his release in October 2016. Peter has been deeply immersed in community activities since his release from prison. He is based in Nairobi, Kenya, where, with a dedicated team of volunteers and minimal funding, he has helped put the charity on the national and world map through building impactful partnerships, and with the support of friends, communities and government agencies. Peter successfully lobbied President Kenyatta to help the youth in Korogocho slums regain their playgrounds. The grounds have since been modernized into a floodlit fenced stadium. This has led to a marked decrease in crime in that particular neighborhood. Peter has also assisted some “at risk” girls to re-enroll in school, by linking them to friends of the organization who have agreed to pay their school fees. Peter is the current leader of the organization as the CEO but is supported by a dedicated Board of Directors and staff. A noted public and three times TED Speaker, Peter gives free motivational talks to students in schools on leadership and responsibility, as a way of mentoring the next generation of ethical leaders. His weekends are mostly spent coordinating legal awareness sessions in the less privileged communities with students from the Strathmore University Law Clinic. BOOK NOW!
